Introducing Mary Canham, your candidate for Ketton

April 11, 2019 10:38 PM

Mary CanhamI feel proud that my home county is recognised as one of the best places in the U.K. to live. However, it is not something that we should take for granted.

The plans to significantly increase the housing stock at St George's Barracks and Woolfox Depot will inevitably have a marked effect on local people's lives. It is imperative that plans for such large-scale development take full account of the current and future needs of local communities to ensure the standard of delivery of local services is safeguarded.

This can only be achieved by diversifying the membership of Rutland Council so that local decision makers are fully held to account and the needs of all members of the community are fairly represented.

I moved to Rutland in 1995 together with my husband and four children. I currently manage a local property company. However, I have previously worked within the public sector at Addenbrookes Hospital and the University of Nottingham, where I taught Public Law. If elected, I believe that my relevant commercial skills together with my commitment to transparency and accountability, will enable me to ensure the interests of local people living in Tinwell, Ketton and Barrowden are effectively safeguarded.
