Figures uncovered in parliamentary questions by Paul Holmes, Liberal Democrat MP for Chesterfield show that Derbyshire Fire Authority is the third-lowest funded in England. Fri 12th Mar 2010: Town centre debate set for 25th March. Guildhall Regeneration Spokesperson, Cllr Richard Church (Lib Dem, Kingsthorpe), and Conservative MP for Northampton South, Brian Binley will go head-to-head at a public debate entitled 'The Future of Northampton Town Centre' on Thursday 25th March. Work has begun on a £2 million Marina in Becket's Park to open up Northampton's most discarded natural resource - the River Nene. Tue 9th Mar 2010: Holmes attacks Labour over short-changing of Derbyshire pupils. The Labour Government has short-changed Derbyshire schoolchildren by more and more each year since 1997, according to figures uncovered by the Liberal Democrat MP, Paul Holmes. Ten years ago, the average pupil in Derbyshire received £230 less than the England average. Now, pupils in the county receive almost £400 less per year. Chesterfield MP Paul Holmes has welcomed official figures, uncovered by the Liberal Democrats, which show that around one in five workers in Chesterfield would no longer have to pay a penny of income tax under Liberal Democrat tax plans. Paul said, "Gordon Browns abolition of the 10p tax rate hit the poorest the hardest, Vince Cables tax plans would reverse this."
