Bogus Neighbourhood Watch calls

9.21.41am GMT Mon 25th Feb 2008

The Leicestershire & Rutland County Neighbourhood Watch Association working in partnership with Leicestershire Constabulary has reported that during the last few days several local residents have received phone calls from people pretending to be representatives of Neighbourhood Watch. In one case, the caller claimed to be the local Neighbourhood Watch coordinator and wanted to know details of the householders alarm system and where they kept their jewellery. The Neighbourhood Watch does not make calls of this kind and so it is fairly certain that these callers are bogus and are probably criminals trying their luck.

Another common scam reported recently is that of residents being kept talking at the front door whilst accomplices enter the premises via the back door.
