Whilst the emergency coalition budget did not deliver everything we could have wanted this was only to be expected, given the very nature of shared power and the obvious need for compromise.

However, the budget does include a number of Liberal Democrat priorities, representing the views of the nearly seven million people who voted for us nationally at the general election and indeed the largest LibDem vote in Rutland and Melton since 1983. This budget sets us on the road to a fairer Britain, with help for millions of pensioners and those on low incomes, leaving people with greater wealth to contribute most.
The outcome makes it clear that voting Liberal Democrat has had a major influence on UK economic policy.
