Anybody who is considering standing in the unitary or parish local elections in May is urged to attend an information event being held on Saturday 10 March at the council offices in Oakham. Prospective candidates are invited to attend and find out more about what the role of a councillor is, as well as the level of commitment and work involved.
Returning Officer for Rutland County Council, Helen Briggs, says: 'We always get many enquiries before local elections from people who are interested in finding out more about becoming a Councillor. We thought it would be very helpful to organise an event for people to find out more and help them decide whether to stand for election on May 3rd.'
Mrs. Briggs added, 'We are hoping that some of the current Councillors will be on hand to offer words of advice and to answer any questions that people may have. Standing for election can be fairly daunting, but hopefully this open morning will remove some of the uncertainty from the process.'
The open morning takes place on Saturday 10 March from 10.00am until Midday at the council offices in Oakham. Those interested can simply turn up on the day - you do not have to reserve a place.
