Later this year, the parties will hold their autumn conferences. These are great occasions for those who can get to them but they are inaccessible to most. That's why Sir Ming announced after the local elections a "Virtual Conference" which will embrace new technology to invite people of all political persuasions to give their views on how Britain should be run.
Ming writes -
'Baroness (Helena) Kennedy, recently chaired the Power Inquiry, which this year published a devastating critique of the state of Britain's formal democracy. The report endorses much of what Liberals and Liberal Democrats have argued for decades: that Parliament must assert itself over the Executive; that local government should obtain greater power and independence from the centre; that Britain needs a more responsive voting system at every level of election.
Any such report is welcome - but we must not be complacent. If we are to open our political process up beyond the "usual suspects", we must first determine what that process should be with the new people we hope to bring in.
That's why the Taking Power Virtual Conference wants your views on the Power Inquiry proposals.'
Taking Power doesn't just want to hear from Liberal Democrats - the Virtual Conference must reach people who aren't presently engaged with the political process. Please do what you can to help.
Visit http://www.takingpower.org/ to sign up today. The main Conference begins on September 6th but Taking Power needs your details now to keep you in touch with developments over the summer.
