Renew your Passport now

Nick Clegg, shadow home secretary for the Liberal Democrats is urging people to renew their passports now in order to avoid signing up for an ID card.
By renewing our passports now, before the database is up and running, we will make sure that our details won't be entered on the government's database system until our new passport is up for renewal again in ten years time.

You can renew your passport any time you want - you don't have to wait until the expiry date has been reached. Since the Government has decided to rely on passport and driving licence renewals as the main way to include personal details on the ID Card database, you have it in your own power to take this small step to keep free from the database as long as possible.
