Nick Clegg on ID cards

Nick Clegg, LibDem Shadow Home Secretary, has sent an email about the current ID card situation.
"Thank you once again for your support for our campaign against ID Cards.
As you will know the Bill passed its final stages just before the Easter Recess. The Liberal Democrats remain implacably opposed to the Bill. On the floor of the House I continued to challenge the Home Secretary, asking him to justify why the country is expected to accept the imposition of a scheme that we know is illiberal in principle and deeply flawed in practice.
I was proud to go through the lobby with my colleagues, opposing the Bill to the end, especially as the Conservative Party decided to back a minor concession from the Government and supported the Bill in the final vote.
Thank you for your support. We will continue to campaign on this issue and are considering our next steps.
